I'm not going to give you a blow by blow of the Friday Night Gala event at the Progress Energy Art Gallery (NPR) but it was great. A lot more people showed up then I expected including artist and teacher (PHCC), David Kastner!! (

He has been very helpful to me with suggestions and insight. And if I can ever get some time, I plan on sitting in on some of his classes. It was a real surprise to see him there, and I'd like to thank him and Nancy Ciesla, Curator of the Progress Energy Art Gallery, for being there for me! The evening flew by very quickly, w/many nice folks asking about my work. I even got a short interview. The reporter, Klint Lowry, with the Suncoast News and The Tampa Tribune really captured my philosophy. See the link attached:

One of the many highlights of the even came when one lady asked me if I could see a "cat" in my painting "An Old Man's Dream"? I followed her back to my painting and couldn't see what she was talking about until she pointed it out! WOW, talk about "hidden images" this one was right there. Now I see the cat all the time!!

Oh, yes. I ran out of my trading cards. Folks who came over to me and asked about my paintings and those who pronounced "jacabo" correctly (in Spanish) got a handmade drawing on a card from me. It was very popular and I plan on offering them again at my next showing.

I promise to have pictures up of the exhibition up in my next blog entry. So look for it soon.
And something new I discovered to save money on oils...

The show continues till April 28th at the Progress Energy Art Gallery ( so be sure to drop by... In my next blog entry, I'll discuss some of the issues which I had with getting my paintings back from the gallery and some tips on what not to do -- that I did! See you then.
