Plenty of Updates

RECAP
I know it's been a while since my last post but man, things have been moving fast for me. First some old news, I didn't place in the Progress Energy Art Gallery's People's Choice Award; no surprise there... (Check out the 1st Place winner: www.nprgallery.com ) All I have to say is that perhaps it would be best to have several categories. Separate the different types of art forms. I think it would help qualify the choices for the public within there own style.

ROAD TRIP
We took a short vacation and visited the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA. Boy-O-boy!! What a treat. I've not been in a museum since I was a student in New York City. And the school took us on a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Many, many years ago! This is true ... never stepped into one before now. What I've been missing? Needless to say, I went crazy!

THE NC MUSEUM OF ART
Great visit. Modern Building. We got there an hour before closing time. We couldn't take it all in but they had a Renoir that was incredible! The museum is worth a visit. I spoke to a couple of helpers there and I passed out my business cards and website. They seemed interested and friendly. I plan to submit a couple of samples. But I'm not encouraged. It seems that local artist from other areas have a tough time getting exhibited, especially if you are not local.

CHRYSLER MUSEUM OF ART
In a word: INCREDIBLE! I went super crazy there! Particular with the gallery that held artist like, Matisse, Gauguin, Degas, and Cezanne, my favorites! I need to revisit the museum and spend more time looking at some these great artist! I didn't realize how quickly I can get inspired just by looking at these original works of art! It is a great feeling to see so much fame hanging there, just for you to enjoy!! More on this later with pictures.

A NEW VENUE:
Homewood Suites by Hilton, NPR, FL

Great News! Got a call from Progress Energy Art Gallery just before going on vacation that I was asked by Homewood Suites - Hilton (www.tampaportrichey.homewoodsuites.com) to exhibit may Lost Memories Collection at their hotel. They selected particularly half my paintings!

When I got back, I went crazy getting ready for the showing. I had to get one of the paintings framed and all photographed for prints. (To be honest, I didn't want to do digital prints (Giclee) but I changed my mind. It would help the gallery if I would sell something!) Anyway, we had only this weekend to get it done. We show Monday, August 1st at 10:00 am.

A COUPLE OF PROBLEMS...
All my paintings have frames that cast shadows; it would have meant removing the frames on all six paintings. And I found out that the Cadmium Yellow Pale I use, along with Yellow Ochre, was giving us a color problem to reproduce. We just didn't have enough time to get it right. So we'll have to hold off on the giclees until some sell. Then we'll have more time to get it done.

OK I'll SAVE THE REST FOR NEXT POST
I'll be taking pictures of my paintings at the Hilton and filling in more on the rest of my vacation with some pictures. If you are in the neighborhood drop by 11115 US Highway 19 North, Port Richey, FL
